Mike Simmonds first became a governor in his children’s primary school nearly 25 years ago and soon was elected Chair which continued for about 8 years. During that time he was instrumental in setting up an Association of Governors in the County. He has since been a governor of a Junior School which he chaired for six years and of a Secondary school where he was chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee. Currently he is chair a governor of a Primary Academy.
It was whilst working for CARE that Mike took on leadership of the support work for Christians who were school governors. As part of a team he contributed to the development, writing and publication of various papers and booklets on school governance including the influential ‘Become a change activist school governor’. He travelled widely presenting and speaking on the role of the Christians as a governor.
Today one area of his work is speaking and informing governors in a range of contexts with one of his main projects being ‘Transforming Governing ‘
